LATENT started as a set of internal notes for engineers who wanted to understand AI beyond the headlines. It's now a weekly publication read by researchers, builders, and the professionally curious.
A publication built on one rule: explain it plainly, or don't publish it.
LATENT is edited by Maya Okonkwo, a former machine learning engineer who spent six years building recommendation systems before turning to writing full-time. The publication grew out of a simple frustration: most AI coverage was either breathless hype or dense enough to require a PhD to parse.
Every essay here goes through the same test — could someone with no machine learning background follow the argument, and could someone with a PhD in the field find nothing to object to? That's a high bar, and we don't always clear it. But it's the bar.
The team is small on purpose: a rotating group of contributing researchers and engineers who write about the corners of AI they know best, edited by Maya and fact-checked against primary sources before anything goes out.
